Dr. Mercola believes that in order to stay healthy, you should be consuming healthy fats for at least 50 to 75 percent of your daily calorie intake. This high-fat, low-carb diet includes saturated fats that you can source from meat and vegetables to maintain the proper functioning of your immune system, cell membranes, heart, lungs, liver, bones, hormones, and genetic regulation. Saturated fats also help you to feel “full” meaning you’ll spend less time feeling uncomfortably hungry, and can avoid over-eating and impulsive eating.
These are the types of foods you should be eating from each food group, according to Dr. Mercola.
Healthy fats: Foods that offer healthy fat include avocados, olive oil, butter, raw organic vegetables, and nuts.
Proteins: Healthy proteins include grass-fed, organic poultry, meat, “safe” fish like Alaskan salmon, raw organic dairy, and organic pastured eggs.
Fruits: Dr. Mercola believes in consuming a moderate amount of fruit since they contain fructose, and he believes in limiting fructose to less than 25 grams a day, with 15 grams coming from whole fruits.
Grains and sugars: Dr. Mercola believes in minimal to zero consumption of grains and sugars. This even includes complex carbohydrates like cereal, bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, corn, and grain products.
Dr. Mercola also believes in limiting the amount of sugar and grains you eat.
