You may know Mat Fraser as the “fittest man on earth.” The world-renowned CrossFit athlete earned this title after he took home first place at the CrossFit Games three consecutive years in a row in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Before that, he won second place at the CrossFit Games in 2014 and 2015.

Fraser’s legendary level of personal fitness has lead many to wonder: what does Fraser’s diet look like? What kinds of supplements does Mat Fraser use to augment his workout routine, and stay at the top of his game?

Luckily, Fraser isn’t secretive about his diet or what kinds of supplements he uses. As far as the food he eats, that’s all prepared by his wife Sammy Moniz, who, despite cooking mouthwatering meals, isn’t preparing anything too out of the ordinary for Fraser. In other words, Fraser’s diet is highly attainable, and he only uses a few supplements, which are readily available.

Mat Fraser Diet

Mat Fraser’s diet is extremely simple, and definitely not what most people would expect from a world-class athlete known as the “fittest man on earth.” This is a good thing, as it dispels a lot of the myths around the need for extreme dieting. You don’t need to adopt strict dietary regimens to reach a high level of fitness!

Mat does have one leg up on the average person, however: his wife, Sammy Moniz, cooks every meal for him.

That being said, while her meals are prepared with care for a top notch taste factor, the ingredients and recipes are simple and attainable for anyone! In fact, Moniz says that Mat and her eat tacos for at least four of their meals every week.

According to Mat, his diet is mostly meat, vegetables and fruit. He says there’s no exact science to it, but that he makes sure that he rarely eats things that come in wrappers. That means no junk food and no soda. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t splurge every once in a while either. If he splurges, Mat says he’ll have half a Hershey’s bar of plain milk chocolate.

Mat also claims that he doesn’t try to cram in meals when his body is telling him he doesn’t need them. If he’s hungry, he eats. If he isn’t hungry, he doesn’t eat. It’s that simple!

If you’re really itching for a challenge to step up your diet in a positive way, you can also try the “800-gram challenge.” This means that every day, you try to get 800 grams of fruit and vegetables. It doesn’t matter if they’re canned, frozen, cooked—whatever. They just can’t be processed.

Here’s what an average day of meals looks like for Mat Fraser:

Breakfast: (Between 7:30am and 8:30 am)

  • Russet potato hash
  • Soft scrambled eggs
  • 2 pork sausage patties
  • 2 strips of bacon

Lunch: (about 1:30pm)

  • Sandwich

Fraser claims that he often just has some sort of sandwich for lunch. Sometimes these are a bit more extravagant, like a Cubano, and other times as simple as a modified PB & J. Dinner (about 6:00pm)

  • Steak and potatoes
    OR
  • Enchiladas

  • Tacos

Again, Fraser claims that his dinner meals consist of pretty average recipes, like tacos or steak. And as we wrote above, Moniz claims that they will eat tacos for at least four meals a week. So you don’t need to go overboard with dinner. Just eat something delicious, and non-processed!

So there you have it—Mat Fraser’s diet, and the supplements he uses to top it off. The main takeaway here is that if you eat only when you’re hungry, and make sure that when you do eat that it’s not processed food, but rather vegetables, fruit, or lean meat, you’re going to be eating healthy. But don’t forget: on top of his diet, Mat Fraser exercises a lot. So don’t expect to reach Mat Fraser levels of health if you’re living a completely sedentary lifestyle.
